Andy Bell - Chief Executive, graduated from Nottingham University in 1987 with a first class degree in mathematics and then joined a major insurance company as an actuarial student. After a sabbatical coaching football and tennis in America he qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1993 whilst working in an actuarial consultancy. The majority of Andy's professional career has been spent dealing with SSAS, SIPP and FURBS as well as providing expert witness reports on a variety of litigation and complaint cases. Andy set up A J Bell in August 1995 and is a founder of Sippdeal, the UK's first online SIPP.
Nicholas Littlefair - Non-Executive Director, spent a year at a firm of stockbrokers in London and then five years in the actuarial department at an insurance company in Johannesburg. He then worked for a couple of major UK insurance companies in their actuarial and pensions departments by which time he had completed his ACII diploma. He then progressed to technical roles with two SSAS practitioners before joining Andy to set up A J Bell.
Richard Taylor - Managing Director, joined the Group in October 2005, with over 25 years experience in the financial services industry. He has held senior Legal, Marketing and Strategy roles with a number of leading insurance companies. For many years he worked for a company specialising in the SSAS and SIPP market, leading its legal, pensions technical and compliance teams. He also has extensive product development and marketing experience, including the launch of a SIPP in 1992 and the first drawdown plan in the IFA market.
Ian Bell - Operations Director, joined us as Operations Director in March 2002 with 10 years of pensions experience. After serving in the British Army, Ian entered the pensions industry in 1992. He initially worked on traditional group pension arrangements but moved on to deal with both SSASs and SIPPs becoming head of pensions business at a well known UK insurance company. He has been a director of a number of trustee companies and has more recently been involved in designing systems for SSAS and SIPP administration.
Fergus Lyons - Commercial Director, joined the Group in August 2000 having worked for Bank of Ireland in various roles for over twenty years. He has been involved in the SIPP market for a number of years and was instrumental in the launch of the A J Bell SIPP in 1998. He joined to assist with the launch of Sippdeal, then the UK's first online SIPP. Having being involved in the day to day operations of Sippdeal for a number of years he is now responsible for all commercial aspects of the A J Bell Group, this including Sales & Marketing activities.
Malcolm Gordon - Business Development Director, joined the A J Bell Group in September 2002 and has been in the industry for over 20 years. Prior to joining us, Malcolm was head of SIPP Development at a well known insurance company where he had been responsible for the development, sales and promotion of their SIPP product - as well as being involved in product development and marketing more generally. Prior to this, Malcolm worked largely in the SSAS area, including several years as a trustee representative.
Robin Larby - Actuary, joined us in July 1997 bringing with him over 20 years pensions and actuarial experience. Robin graduated from Southampton University in 1973 with a first class degree in mathematics. He spent 16 years with a major insurance company in a variety of pension administration, technical and actuarial roles having qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1976. Robin then spent over 7 years in an actuarial consultancy where he became their main board director responsible for their SSAS, SIPP and FURBS.
David Fowler - Consultant, joined us in June 2001 and brought with him over 30 years experience in the pensions industry. Starting as a consultant with a major insurance company, he then became a director of a national firm of insurance brokers in the late 80's responsible for both their Leeds and Liverpool offices. His interest in the SSAS market then resulted in a move to a firm of consulting actuaries based in the North of England. During the 10 years prior to joining us, David was employed by a Yorkshire firm of chartered accountants primarily advising clients on both SSASs and SIPPs.
Anne McKenna - Consultant, joined the Group in 2003 from a major benefits and actuarial consultancy with over 14 years experience. Having spent the majority of her professional career working in SSAS, Anne has extensive experience of all aspects, including administration, trusteeship and technical. Anne joined us in a consultancy capacity, working with SSAS and SIPP corporate clients and their advisers in dealing with a wide range of strategic issues.
Jonathan Prescott - Consultant, joined the Group in 1999 having graduated the previous year with a degree in Economics. He initially spent 6 months working for a firm of independent financial advisers before joining our SSAS team. Jonathan has worked in variety of different areas of the business. In recent times, he has focused on SIPP in a consultancy capacity and been involved in dealing with a wide range of strategic issues for both clients and advisers.
Andy Thewlis - Business Development Manager, joined the Group in October 2005 with almost twenty years experience in the financial services industry. He has held a number of senior positions within organisations over this period including Regional Manager (Northern England), for a major life assurance company as well as specialist pension roles with the same organisation and a leading accountancy practice. Andy is an Economics graduate and an Associate of both the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Personal Finance Society.
