UX/UI Designer

Who we are

Touch by AJ Bell are developing a next generation investment platform. We want to use technology to improve the way consumers access financial advice and manage their investments.

The majority of existing platforms are still reliant on software and processes that aren’t capable of supporting today’s technology, so we started from scratch, developing a modern platform that is as efficient as possible. We're building a mobile first investment app that lets advisers manage their clients' investments entirely through their smartphone.

We originally founded the company (then Adalpha Ltd) in 2018, before being acquired in2021 by AJ Bell, one of the UK's largest investment platforms and part of the FTSE 250Index, to support the development of their digital services.

The role

We're looking for a talented UX/UI Designer to work collaboratively with the full Touch by AJ Bell Team. You will work alongside our Lead UX Designer to deliver great experiences across all our touchpoints. These include:

  • Secure web app for Financial Advisers
  • Native (iOS & Android) mobile app for their Investors
  • Operations platform for our internal teams
  • Commercial website for prospective finance firms

We're a small, fast paced team, so every day is different. Collaboration is key to our success, so we'd be keen for the successful candidate to work with us in our Bristol office for 2 - 3 days each week.

The day to day responsibilities

  • Working with product owners and engineering teams to create designs and prototypes to assist with product development
  • Running collaborative sessions with the wider team to fine tune designs. These sessions allow us to lean on other people's expertise of the finance sector, ensure user experience is prioritised in feature requirements, unearth edge cases and accommodate technical constraints
  • Using quantitative and qualitative research techniques to make data-driven design decisions. From carrying out usability trials and interviews to analysing usage data in Google Analytics
  • When data and insight isn't available, making design decisions based on product psychology and common design principles
  • Creating high fidelity designs, with on-trend UI elements and animations
  • Constant appreciation of accessible design practises
  • Assisting with the evolution of our design system

Your skills and attributes

  • A relevant design degree and some industry experience, or an equivalent amount of experience in the industry
  • A passion for user experience, product design and development
  • Good knowledge of research techniques and design principles
  • Ability to get to grips with a complex problem domain
  • Excellent visual design skills with a strong portfolio
  • Expertise in some of the following software packages: Figma, Sketch, Flinto,Illustrator, AfterEffects, Rive, Miro
  • Experience in designing and prototyping for web and/or mobile platforms
  • Willingness to share your own knowledge with the team
