Site Reliability Engineer

Who we are

Touch are developing a next generation investment platform. We want to use technology to improve the way consumers access financial advice and manage their investments.

The majority of existing platforms are still reliant on software and processes that aren’t capable of supporting today’s technology, so we started from scratch, developing a modern platform that is as efficient as possible. We're building a mobile first investment app that lets advisers manage their clients' investments entirely through their smartphone.

We originally founded the company (then Adalpha Ltd) in 2018, before being acquired in2021 by AJ Bell, one of the UK's largest investment platforms and part of the FTSE 250Index, to support the development of their digital services.

The role

Our software engineers engage in the full spectrum of the software development lifecycle. We are looking for an experienced engineer with a development and operations background to join us in building and testing features, managing deployment and supporting our service in production. Joining a small, dynamic team you will have the opportunity to work on a large greenfield development, helping to form the design and development of the entire system.

The day to day responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in many aspects of software delivery from development through to operations, including but not limited to:

  • Infrastructure: Infrastructure as Code (IaC), design and management
  • Operational monitoring: performance, errors and security
  • Infrastructure hardening including any resolutions from pen tests, audit and other third-party testing of our estate
  • CI/CD including build systems and automated testing
  • Contributing to feature development

Your skills and attributes

Demonstrable experience in an infrastructure role (UNIX, virtualisation, networking) either in software delivery or operational support.

Development of back end systems software that improves resilience and reduces operational overheads.

Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills including root cause analysis and postmortems.

Software development for automation techniques in production environments, including knowledge of the below or similar:

  • CI/CD pipelines (we use GitLab)
  • Cloud infrastructure (we use Google Cloud Platform)
  • Containers (building, operations, security, and orchestration; we use Nomad)
  • Experience of penetration testing and audit
  • Infrastructure as Code (we use Terraform)
  • Networking (layer 4 and 7 load balancing, DNS, mTLS)
  • Observability systems (we're particularly interested in Prometheus, Grafana and OpenTelemetry)
  • PKI (particularly Vault)
  • Scripting (we predominantly use Bash and Go)
  • Comfortable with the prospect of developing in Go, TypeScript (with Vue.js) or Dart(with Flutter)

Our tools and technologies

The below are all things that we are either currently using or looking to implement. Knowledge of them is not essential but would be beneficial to the role:
