What markets can I deal in?

Answer

With AJ Bell, you can deal in most UK markets, and we also offer dealing in 23 other countries, including Canada and the US. See our international dealing page for more information on market opening times.

Trading in multiple countries is possible using CREST Depository Interest (CDIs). A CDI is a UK investment that represents an investment listed on an exchange outside the UK, letting you trade in as many markets as possible. CDIs are dealt online and quoted in Sterling which makes them easier for UK investors to handle. Where CDIs are available, our system will offer them automatically in preference to local international holdings.

What are your charges for dealing internationally?

A dealing charge and a foreign exchange (FX) charge apply when you buy or sell international shares with us. See our international dealing page above for more information on charges.

Can I deal in US and Canadian markets?

You can deal for all shares in the main US and Canadian markets that are available as CDIs. Online quotes in the US and Canadian markets are generally available between 2.30pm and 9.00pm UK time, on UK business days.

Depending on your market and account type, you may have to complete a form before making a deal.

  • You need to complete a W-8BEN form to buy and sell US-listed investments within any account except a SIPP. For most accounts, you can complete a W-8BEN form online.
  • For a Junior account, Joint Dealing account, Bare Trust Dealing account or Dealing account for UK-registered pension schemes, you’ll need to complete an offline W-8BEN form. Please read the W-8BEN guidelines to help you complete the form correctly.
  • To buy and sell Canadian investments within any account except a SIPP, you’ll need to complete an NR301 form, which can be completed offline. Please read the NR301 form guidelines to help you complete it correctly.
