In addition he will focus on expanding the investment solutions offered by AJ Bell Investments, the new investment management business that was created earlier this year.
Most recently Hughes was Fund Manager at Apollo where he ran a range of multi asset portfolios and prior to that he was Senior Fund Manager at Old Mutual Global Investors, working across its multi asset fund range.
AJ Bell Investments was formed earlier this year following the acquisitions of Indexx Markets and Mansard Capital.
