Stockmarkets have traditionally reacted badly when a Republican replaces a Democrat as president with an average fall in the Dow Jones of 8.8% in the first year of office. However, Donald Trump is not likely to be a traditional president.

There could be a number of UK based firms and funds that stand to benefit over the longer term, Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell has identified the top three sectors: infrastructure, defence and pharmaceuticals.
