At AJ Bell, we have some brilliant women working in our Tech Team. Every few weeks a different women in our technology department will be interviewed, highlighting their experiences working at AJ Bell.

Please introduce yourself…

I’m Ruta and I work as a Software Engineer with the Operational Team.

What role did you have before joining technology services?

Before joining AJ Bell I worked as a software developer in the energy industry, working with energy suppliers and brokers on portals projects.

Why did you choose a career in tech?

I have always wanted to work in tech, because technologies, in nature, are constantly evolving, which gives you unlimited potential for learning.  A career in technology provides the opportunity to work on diverse projects.

How do you find the Technology Department in AJ Bell?

AJ Bell’s Technology Department is very evolving and dynamic – everyone in team is very friendly, and helping in nature. One thing I like most is knowledge sharing; people are willing to share their knowledge and experience across all teams in the Technology Department. Online training material is available to everyone who is willing to learn new things in technology.

Describe some of the tasks you do in your day-to-day job?

My day-to-day role involves primarily writing and deploying code to different stages such as lower environment to production, attending all scrum meetings, and spending some time on self-development by doing technical training from available training websites.

What advice would you give women thinking about a career in technology services?

Do your background work and see if you have enough interest in technology. I’d recommend anybody considering a career in tech has short- as well as long-term perspective, and considers the career progression.

What progression are you hoping for in your career?

I am looking for growth towards experience in the technology domain, plus any chance to work on upcoming advanced tech.
