Keeping your savings safe
Your savings are your future. Keeping them safe is vital. Here at AJ Bell we’ve a raft of security measures to do just that, including 256-bit SSL encryption for your data, and cover from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) for your money in our Cash savings hub.

How your savings are held
Apart from when it's transferring, your money is always held in one of two places – in your transaction account, or in a savings account you’ve chosen yourself.
By logging in, you can see in a glance exactly where your money is. And we’ll email you with confirmations and reminders to help you stay on top of everything.
Transaction account
Your transaction account is unique to you, with your own account number and sort code. It’s operated by our partner, ClearBank, who are authorised and regulated by the PRA and FCA and covered by the FSCS. As it's only intended as a temporary home for your money, the transaction account doesn’t pay any interest.
Savings accounts
Your savings accounts are held with our partner banks. To help keep you and your savings secure, we only work with partner banks who are:
- Authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA)
- Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and PRA
- Covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protection
Every savings account we offer is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). In the unlikely event that your bank goes under and you lose your money, the FSCS aims to pay you back within seven working days.
The FSCS covers up to £85,000 per person, per banking licence.
This is the most you can deposit per partner bank in your Cash savings hub. If you open more than one account with the same partner bank, the £85,000 limit applies across the total amount deposited.
It's possible that money you have elsewhere shares a banking licence with one of our partner banks. So it's worth checking to make sure you're fully covered.
Online security
We have comprehensive measures to safeguard your personal information. To ensure your data can’t be intercepted and read, we use 256-bit SSL encryption between your browser and our servers. Look for the padlock icon in your address bar which shows this encryption is in place.
Additionally, it’s only possible to access the AJ Bell website via https (SSL). This guarantees your browser can't visit our site without the safeguard of SSL encryption.
To ensure you’re benefiting from the latest encryption ciphers we support, we encourage you to keep your browser up to date. Encryption ciphers scramble the data you give us, keeping it secure.
