Paul Angell: Head of Investment Research, discusses our Favourite funds list, a carefully selected list of active and tracker funds.
Hello, I’m Paul Angell, Head of Investment Research here at AJ Bell.
Today, let’s discuss the AJ Bell Favourite funds list. With so much choice available in the investment world, we understand it can be hard to decide where to put your money, and easy to get lost in the maze of available investments.
That’s where we hope the AJ Bell Favourite funds list can help. Our Favourite funds list is a filtered, high quality, researched list of funds that we think have a great chance of delivering their investment objectives over the long-term. To be selected for this list, our experienced in-house investment team at AJ Bell apply a rigorous research process across both active and passively managed strategies.
When deciding whether to include active funds – those that look to outperform a stated benchmark – our investment team scour the market to identify those funds that we think are well positioned to deliver their investment objectives over the long-term. Key areas we consider here include the clarity of the fund manager’s investment philosophy and process, the success and consistency of their past performance profile, their approach to risk management, and the price of the fund.
This rigorous approach helps ensure the list is filled with high quality active strategies that we believe to have a great chance of delivering their objectives over the long-term.When deciding whether passive investments – those that aim to track the performance of a specific benchmark – make the list, we assess a number of criteria, including the size of the strategy, how easy the fund is to trade, how well it tracks its stated benchmark and how much it costs. This results in a range of high-quality passive strategies managed by some of the biggest asset managers in the world, enabling you to get low-cost exposure to a wide range of different investments.
We also understand the importance of monitoring your investments, which is why every fund on our list is continually assessed to ensure it still warrants its place. Should our view change on one of the funds, we’ll remove it from the list and communicate the change via our regular customer emails, giving you peace of mind that our expert investment team at AJ Bell is constantly monitoring all of the funds on the list. Our favourite funds list is just one of the ways we can help. Take a look at the investment ideas area of our website, where you’ll also find our range of AJ Bell funds, which are entirely managed by us for hassle-free, low cost investing or our Starter portfolios, which can help give you a head start with managing your own portfolios.
And finally, a reminder that this list has been designed for people who are comfortable choosing and managing their own investments. You should also do your own research to ensure a fund aligns with your own risk tolerance and financial goals. The funds on the list aren’t a personal recommendation, so if you're unsure, please consult a financial adviser.
That’s all for now, we hope our Favourite funds list helps you choose investments that are right for you. As with all investing, the value of your investments can go down as well as up.
Thank you for watching.
