October proved to be an appalling month for retailers
Thursday 16 Nov 2017 Author: Daniel Coatsworth

UK high street sales in October suffered their worst month since April 2016, according to the latest BDO tracker report. It blamed a fall in spending, a drop in consumer confidence and unseasonably warm weather.

Total like-for-like sales fell 5.2% in the month – representing the worst October ever recorded by the survey.

Fashion sales were down 7.9%, perhaps because shoppers didn’t feel cold enough to buy the winter clothes being stocked by retailers.
