How do I cancel a Direct Debit?

You can cancel a personal Direct Debit to your account by logging into your account and accessing the ‘Regular payments’ screen. Here, you’ll see a list of your active Direct Debits. Simply click the recycling bin icon for the one you want to cancel.

There are certain types of Direct Debits you can’t cancel in this way:

  • Employer contributions: To cancel these, please send an email to customercontributions@ajbell.co.uk including your account number and confirming your intention to cancel the Direct Debit. This email can be sent by either you or your employer. Alternatively, your employer can cancel the Direct Debit with their bank directly, and the bank will advise us accordingly.
  • Direct Debits for a junior account paid by someone other than the registered contact: To cancel these, you'll need to send us a secure message.

Please note, if you cancel a Direct Debit in the last two working days of the month, the following month's payment may still go through. For example, if you cancelled a Direct Debit on 31 May, the June payment may still be processed. This would mean your cancellation wouldn't apply until July.
