How does family linking work?

To set up family linking, firstly the family member you want to give access to must have an AJ Bell account.

Next, you need to decide what level of access you want to give them.

‘View only’ access means they can only see your investments.

‘Dealing’ access means they can buy and sell investments for you, as well as view your account.

A family member can have access to up to five accounts. They can see all the accounts they have access to in the account overview summary, when logged in.

Give a family member special access to your account with Family Linking. With Family Linking, you appoint an account lead, who can then either view your account or take control of your investments. As long as they hold an AJ Bell account of their own, they’ll be able to access most personal investment accounts.

To set up Family Linking, log into your account, and then under ‘My account’, head to ‘Account management’. Followed by ‘Update my details’, and ‘Family Linking’. Decide what type of access you want to grant. Fill out their details, including their AJ Bell account number – you'll need to have this to hand.

Their AJ Bell account number can be found on their Account Overview page, next to an account. Next, select ‘Link family member’. You’ll be asked to enter a one-time code to verify it is you. Your family member will then receive an invite to access your account. And that’s it. A family member can access up to five accounts, and if you change your mind, you can remove their access anytime.

How do I set up family linking?

To set up family linking, first you’ll need to grant access to a family member.

Decide what type of access you want them to have, fill out their details, and submit the request. Your family member will receive an email, which they’ll need to accept, then you’ll be set up.

You can change who has access to your account, and their level of access, at any time. Just log into your account and head to our family linking page.

With family linking you can only link accounts one way. If you link a family member to your account, you can’t link your account to theirs.

To set up family linking on a Junior SIPP account, please fill out a Junior SIPP family linking form and either email it to administration@ajbell.co.uk or post it to the address on the form.

If you’ve appointed someone with power of attorney or a deputy with the lawful authority to act on your behalf, they can manage your AJ Bell account(s) for you.

To do this, they'll need to open an AJ Bell account of their own – if they don't already have one – then they'll need to complete and return our legal representative form and email it to administration@ajbellco.uk.
