Derivatives
Derivatives are a type of financial contract where the value is determined by the performance of an underlying asset. These can be used to mitigate risks associated with an investment, like currency hedging, or to attempt to increase the value of an investment through adding risk, such as leveraging.
Some examples of derivatives include contracts for difference (CFDs), as well as futures contracts, which means that a party agrees to purchase an asset from another party at a set price on a certain date, or an options contract, where one party charges a fee for another party to have the choice to purchase an asset on a certain date for a certain price.
