Before you apply for a Lifetime ISA
You'll need around 10 minutes to complete your Lifetime ISA application.
What you’ll need:
- Your National Insurance number – you'll find this on your National Insurance card, a benefit letter, payslip or P60.
- Your bank details – so we can verify your account.
- Your debit card details – so you can put cash in your Lifetime ISA.
- Details of a Lifetime ISA you have elsewhere – if you want to transfer it to us.
Before you apply, just remember:
- You can only open a Lifetime ISA if you’re between ages 18-39
- Our Lifetime ISA is for investors who are comfortable choosing and managing their own investments
- You’ll need to fund your account with either a Direct Debit from as little as £25, a one off payment of £250 or a transfer from another Lifetime ISA
- The value of your investments can go down as well as up, and you could lose money as well as make it
- How you’re taxed will depend on your circumstances, and Lifetime ISA and tax rules can change
What you need to know about Lifetime ISAs:
- You can pay in up to £4,000 into a Lifetime ISA and receive a 25% government bonus worth up to £1,000, each tax year until aged 50
- Your Lifetime ISA must be open for at least 12 months before you can use it to buy your first home (worth up to £450,000). You can also access it when you turn 60, or if you become terminally ill
- If you withdraw money from your LISA for any other reason, you'll pay a government withdrawal charge of 25% – which means you may get back less than you put in
- If you save into a Lifetime ISA instead of enrolling in a pension scheme, you may miss out on the benefit of employer contributions, and it could affect your future entitlement to means-tested benefits
