Aston Martin says mindful of geopolitical backdrop; pretax loss widens

Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings PLC on Wednesday said it is on track to deliver "material financial improvement" this year as it posted a gross profit surge while its loss widened.

The Gaydon, Warwickshire-based luxury carmaker reported a wider pretax loss of £154.2 million for the first half of the year, from £140.8 million 12 months earlier.

In the second quarter alone, it stretched to £88.7 million from £61.2 million.

More positively, adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were £62.7 million in the first half of 2026, compared to a loss of £3.0 million a year prior.

Further, gross profit jumped 68% to £212.5 million from £126.6 million.

Revenue in the half-year climbed 38% to £626.6 million from £454.4 million, rising 62% to £358.2 million from £220.5 million in the second quarter.

Total wholesale volumes rose 21% to 2,331 from 1,922.

Adjusted operating expenses increased 30% to £321.4 million from £248.1 million.

Aston Martin said it was a "materially improved" half-year performance compared with a year earlier and its notes its second quarter free cash outflow eased to £81 million from £201.1 million a year prior.

"H1 2026 demonstrates that we are on track to deliver material financial improvement this year compared with 2025. Q2 2026 total wholesale volumes increased by 43% compared to the prior year period as our focus on smoothing production cadence materialised, with core retail volumes continuing to run ahead of supply," Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hallmark said.

"Valhalla deliveries in H1 2026 supported the improved financial performance including gross profit increasing by 68% from £127 million to £213 million with gross margin up to 34%. We expect an even stronger second half."

The company added that it remained mindful of the broader macroeconomic and geopolitical backdrop.

Aston Martin last week completed a £550 million debt financing, which CEO Hallmark said "significantly strengthens our liquidity, providing us with both additional resilience and further flexibility to execute our current and future product plans".

For 2026, it still expects wholesale volumes at a similar level to last year's 5,448.

Aston Martin shares rose 0.4% to 36.57 pence each on Wednesday around noon in London.
