Bloomsbury partners with Google Cloud for AI technology boost

Bloomsbury Publishing PLC on Wednesday said it has entered into a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud to improve book discovery, sales and learning outcomes using AI.

The London-based publisher said the collaboration will provide access to Google Cloud’s AI technologies, such as NotebookLM, Vertex AI and Gemini Enterprise.

Google Cloud is a suite of cloud computing services offered by Alphabet Inc’s Google LLC.

Bloomsbury said the benefits will include search insights to improve trend analysis and book sales, as well as custom print prediction models to improve inventory management.

It noted that the investment has been factored into existing capital expenditure plans.

This collaboration follows a non-exclusive AI licensing agreement Bloomsbury signed in the first half of the year in its Academic & Professional division. The company said it will continue to enhance its services in this division using AI tools.

‘Bloomsbury is pleased to be working with Google in this collaboration to demonstrate how cutting-edge technology can increase the discovery and sales of books, as well as transform engagement with content to improve learning outcomes,’ said Bloomsbury Chief Executive Nigel Newton.

Shares in Bloomsbury rose 2.3% to 505.02 pence on Wednesday morning in London.
