Braime hails steady first half profit in light of global uncertainty

Braime Group PLC on Monday hailed a steady first half despite global economic uncertainty and new US tariffs, saying results were much better than it had initially feared.

The Leeds, England-based metal presswork manufacturer said pretax profit for the half year that ended June 30 was £1.99 million, broadly unchanged from £2.01 million a year ago.

Revenue rose 1.8% to £26.9 million from £26.4 million.

Operating profit increased to £2.4 million from £2.2 million, despite £300,000 of acquisition-related legal, advisory and stamp-duty costs.

External sales revenue from 4B, the company's distribution division, rose 3.0% to £24.1 million from £23.4 million. 4B's profit for the period more than doubled to £1.9 million from £933,000, reflecting higher sales and margin retained following the acquisition of Don Electronics Ltd and its trading subsidiary, Synatel Instrumentation Ltd in March for a total fair value consideration of £11.2 million.

Braime Pressings' external sales revenue fell to £2.8 million from £3.1 million due to reduced volumes from a key automotive customer, although its profit after tax rose to £303,000 from £233,000.

Braime declared an interim dividend of 6.0 pence per share, unchanged from a year ago, citing current economic uncertainties.

Looking ahead, Braime said its current outlook remained largely unchanged.

"The global economy remains very subdued and unstable, due to the current world geo-politics and ongoing disruption caused by the continuing conflict in the Gulf," Braime said.

It said uncertainty and delays in business investment were likely to continue throughout the rest of 2026, with the postponement of major investment projects limiting near-term sales growth.

Braime said its spares market continued to grow alongside its larger and longer-established markets, while sales of recently launched products also were increasing.

Shares in Braime were last traded at 2,400 pence per share in London on September 10.
