IN BRIEF: JD Sports Fashion hires former Ikea CEO Agnefjall as chair

JD Sports Fashion PLC - Lancashire, England-based sports and outdoor wear retailer - JD picks former IKEA chief executive Peter Agnefjall as its next board chair, starting September 1. Darren Shapland, who has served as interim chair since the company's annual general meeting in July, will revert to non-executive director. Shapland had filled the gap left by the departure of Andrew Higginson after the AGM.

In addition to running the Swedish furniture seller, Agnefjall has served as chair of Dutch grocer Ahold Delhaize NV and is currently a non-executive director of UK advertising agency WPP PLC.

JD says Agnefjall brings extensive international retail, governance and transformation experience to support the group's long-term growth plans. Agnefjall says he will work with JD's executive team, led by CEO Regis Schultz, "to leverage JD's strengths, deepening its roots in international markets and affirming its position in a rapidly evolving retail landscape".
