IN BRIEF: Mears wins PS450 million Birmingham City Council contract

Mears Group PLC - Gloucester, England-based provider of housing and social care - Wins contract from Birmingham City Council worth £450 million over the initial 10 year period. It is for the provision of responsive and void maintenance, gas servicing and heating installation, planned maintenance and improvement programmes to council housing stock. Responsive maintenance is work on occupied properties in response to issues being report, while void maintenance is of properties that are between tenants.

Mears says it will deliver work to 11,500 units of council housing stock within the Birmingham City Council West-Central region. There is the option for the council to extend for a further period of five years.

‘This is a very significant contract award for the group and an important new customer relationship. The group remains highly selective in bidding new work. The nature of this contract, an all-encompassing, long-term asset management arrangement, as previously communicated, forms the bedrock of our forward strategy,’ says Chief Executive Officer Lucas Critchley.
