IN BRIEF: Resolute Mining lowers production guidance amid Mali turmoil
Resolute Mining Ltd - gold mining in Mali, Senegal and Ivory Coast - Output at the Syama gold mine has "remained below plan" since Resolute's second-quarter update, "due to the challenging operating environment in Mali". Resolute cuts 2026 production guidance as a result. Mali has been ravaged by war for nearly 15 years, and on Friday last week at least 100 Malian army soldiers were killed in a jihadist attack that was one of the deadliest of the conflict, AFP reports. Resolute says the situation is harming underground mining, open pit mining and sulphide processing alike. "These issues have continued to reduce ore availability, delay access to higher-grade ore sources, and impact plant throughput and recovery," it says.
Resolute now expects 2026 production at Syama to be between 150,000 and 160,000 ounces, lowered from 195,000 to 210,000 previously. It also cut group output guidance to 205,000 to 225,000 ounces from 250,000 to 275,000. What's more, Resolute increases its forecast for group all-in sustaining costs to USD2,250 to USD2,350 an ounce from USD2,000 to USD2,200 previously. More positively, Resolute says production at the Mako mine in Senegal is "tracking to guidance", and construction at Doropo in Ivory Coast is on schedule and budget.
Resolute says operating performance has been increasing since July as corrective actions have been put in place. "Our immediate focus is on stabilising explosives supply through the construction of our emulsion plant as well as working with our mining contractor to increase fleet availability and overall equipment," Chief Executive Officer Chris Eger says.
