IN BRIEF: Valterra Platinum inks methyl methacrylate deal in China

Valterra Platinum Ltd - Rosebank, Johannesburg-based company formerly known as Anglo American Platinum Ltd - Signs an agreement with Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co Ltd to collaborate on developing a methyl methacrylate production process based on a proprietary palladium-enabled catalyst system. The collaboration aims to advance a technology platform designed to support the evolving needs of China's methyl methacrylate industry, Valterra says.

Methyl methacrylate is a key chemical building block used in the production of acrylic glass, as well as coatings, adhesives and speciality materials serving industries including construction, transportation, electronics, healthcare and renewable energy. China is the world's largest methyl methacrylate producer and consumer. The agreement was signed during Shanghai Platinum Week last month, Valterra says.
