IN BRIEF: Vodafone completes deal to take control of Safaricom

Vodafone Group PLC -Berkshire, England-based telecommunications provider - Subsidiary Vodacom Group Ltd completes the acquisition of an effective 20% stake in Safaricom PLC, increasing its holding to 55%, following the announcement in December. Vodacom acquired a 15% stake from the government of Kenya for KES204 billion, equivalent to EUR1.36 billion, and a further 5% from Vodafone for KES68 billion, or EUR450 million. Following completion, Safaricom will be fully consolidated by both Vodacom and Vodafone, giving them controlling ownership of the Nairobi-based telecommunications and financial services company.

Vodafone stock price: 102.64 pence, down 0.8% on Tuesday in London

Vodacom stock price: ZAR150.36, up 0.3% on Tuesday in Johannesburg

12-month change: up 10%
