Craneware says full-year revenue below expectations; "prudent" outlook
Craneware PLC shares dropped on Monday after the company said full-year growth did not meet expectations due to market uncertainty in the US.
Shares in the financial software provider for the healthcare sector fell 24% to 1,026.00 pence on Monday morning in London.
Edinburgh, Scotland-based Craneware said revenue inched up 0.1% to USD206.0 million from USD205.7 million in the year to June 30, below initial expectations. In July, Craneware had already lowered its guidance to revenue between USD205 million and USD208 million.
The company said the contraction in revenue related to lower realised opportunities in 340B solutions. The 340B programme is a US federal government's initiative that restricts the price manufacturers can charge hospitals for certain drugs in order to provide medication to low-income patients at reduced prices.
"While our software identified a considerable amount of available 340B opportunity for our customers in the second half, and activity levels with customers remained high, the uncertainty in the market meant that this did not translate into revenue, and we did not see the expected growth in our 340B related transaction revenue as a result," the company said.
It added that it expected financial 2027 to be a "transition period" in the 340B market, which would provide more clarity over the regulatory framework and operating processes.
Craneware said pretax profit for 2026 rose 7.4% to USD25.8 million from USD24.0 million.
Chief Executive Officer Keith Neilson commented: "Delivering growth consistently over an 18-year period as a public company is rarely straightforward. 2026 was challenging and growth was below our expectations."
The company noted it dealt with a cyber security incident in July involving unauthorised access to a subset of its data environment.
Craneware said the incident did not disrupt customer services or essential operations and that the immediate impact had been contained. However, it said that full financial outcomes have not been quantified yet.
As a consequence, Craneware said it was "taking a prudent view" for revenue expectations in 2027, resetting them to around USD185 million, equivalent to its annual recurring revenue.
"The cyber incident has led us to reset our near-term financial expectations to provide certainty to stakeholders, but it does not change our confidence in the group’s long-term opportunity," Craneware said.
