Daiichi, AstraZeneca enter clinical trial cooperation with Summit

Daiichi Sankyo Co Ltd and AstraZeneca PLC on Friday said they entered into a clinical trial collaboration with the biopharmaceutical oncology company Summit Therapeutics Inc to evaluate the use of Datroway in combination with ivonescimab in treating multiple tumour types.

The companies said they will begin with a phase 3 trial of the combination in initial treatment for patients with triple-negative breast cancer.

Datroway, discovered by Daiichi and being commercialised by Daiichi and AstraZeneca, is an antibody-drug conjugate designed to target the protein Trop-2, while ivonescimab is engineered to simultaneously target PD-1 and VEGF.

AstraZeneca Executive Vice President of Oncology Haematology Research & Development Susan Galbraith said: "We believe the combination of Datroway and ivonescimab has the potential to make a meaningful difference in multiple tumour types, including lung and breast cancers ."

Each company will contribute their respective medicine for the planned combination trials, which will be sponsored by either Daiichi or AstraZeneca. All companies will contribute to trial costs, and each will retain development and commercial rights to their respective drugs.

Daiichi closed down 1.2% at JPY2,709.00 in Tokyo, while AstraZeneca was up 0.2% at 12,058.00 pence in London on Friday.
