EKF announces hematology purchasing deal with Blood Centers of America

EKF Diagnostics Holdings PLC on Tuesday said it has signed a three-year group purchasing agreement with Blood Centers of America Inc.

The Cardiff, Wales-based diagnostics and biotechnology company said the agreement covers pricing for its DiaSpect Tm hand-held hemaglobin analyser and associated consumable cuvettes, as well as its EKF Link IT licence, which enables paperless workflow and streamlined quality control management.

EKF Chief Executive Gavin Jones said, ‘We are very pleased with the early successes we are seeing as we implement our five-year strategic development plan. In that, we identified hemaglobin testing as the most significant growth opportunity within our Point-of-Care (POC) portfolio and we remain steadfast in our ambition to become number one in global POC hematology testing.’

Regarding the Blood Centers of America deal, Jones added, ‘The agreement with BCA is a significant milestone in this ambition, with the US blood bank market considered to be one of the largest addressable markets in the world.’

Blood Centers of America has more than 60 independent community blood centre members and accounts for around 50% of the US blood supply, EKF said.

EKF will also provide product training, evaluations and valuation support to help integrate the DiaSpect Tm system across BCA’s network.

EKF shares closed up 0.8% at 26 pence each on Tuesday in London.
