Good Energy’s Zapmap to partner with Centrica subsidiary Hive

Good Energy Group PLC on Monday said investee Zapmap has struck an electric vehicle charging pact with British Gas owner Centrica PLC’s smart home technology unit Hive.

The ‘strategic partnership’, which is scheduled to begin in 2025, will see Hive’s customers benefit from the ability to charge their electric vehicles either ‘at or away from home’.

The tie-up reflects the ‘shared mission’ of the companies to ease the charging process, with an aim of supporting the transition of over one million customers to electric vehicles by 2028, Chippenham, England-based renewable electricity supplier and energy services provider Good Energy said.

Good Energy owns just under 50% of Zapmap, an application which allows users to ‘search, plan and pay for charging’ of their electric vehicles.

As part of the long term prospects of the agreement, the Zapmap and Hive will evaluate the possibility of further integration of their applications.

Hive’s Managing Director Dan Rosenfield stated that: ‘We’re on a mission to help make EV charging simple and affordable. Through our strategic partnership with Zapmap and our investments in the Hive app, we are empowering EV drivers to have complete control over their electric driving experience.’

Good Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Nigel Pocklington highlighted Zapmap’s ‘significant role’ in simplifying the electric vehicle charging process.

Pocklington said: ‘EVs and related products such as home charging are a major gateway for customer adoption of renewable energy solutions that can help accelerate decentralised clean power.’

Good Energy shares are up 6.7% today in London on Monday afternoon at 281.75 pence.
