Ireland inflation accelerates in October as energy prices surge
Annual inflation in Ireland accelerated in October, driven by a sharp increase in energy prices, according to preliminary figures released by the Central Statistics Office on Tuesday.
The EU-harmonised consumer price index for Ireland rose 4.0% annually in October, accelerating from 3.8% in September. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.5%.
Energy prices surged 18% year-on-year and rose 4.5% from September, while food prices edged up 0.1% both monthly and annually.
Meanwhile, services prices increased 3.5% annually but declined 0.2% on a monthly basis.
Core inflation, excluding energy and unprocessed food, stood at 2.5% annually, with prices unchanged from September.
The CSO noted that Ireland's inflation rate of 3.8% in September matched that of the wider eurozone.
Eurostat is due to publish preliminary October inflation figures for the eurozone on Wednesday, while Ireland's final October figures are scheduled for November 12.
