Ireland producer price inflation rate hits more than three-year high

Irish annual producer price growth accelerated in June, numbers on Wednesday showed, on a sharp rise in electricity prices.

The Central Statistics Office said annual producer price inflation picked up to 3.5% in June, from 1.6% in May. In April, prices had risen 1.4% on-year, the first increase since January 2025.

June's pace of producer price growth was the highest since March 2023, when it had also been 3.5%. The last time it was loftier was February 2023's 5.5% producer price inflation rate.

The CSO said wholesale electricity prices surged 42% in June from a year prior.

On-month, producer prices fell 0.2% in June, having risen 0.9% in May from April. It was the first monthly decline since a 1.1% fall in February, which largely did not capture a surge in energy prices prompted by the onset of the Middle East conflict.

Electricity prices dropped by 6.2% in June from May.
