Ireland unemployment rate rises to 5.0% in June - CSO

Ireland's unemployment rate edged higher in June, official data showed on Monday, as the number of unemployed people increased on both a monthly and annual basis.

According to the Central Statistics Office, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for people aged 15 to 74 rose to 5.0% in June from 4.9% in May. The rate also increased to 5.0% in June from 4.6% in June 2025.

The seasonally adjusted number of unemployed people climbed to 145,100 in June from 142,000 in May, an increase of 3,100. Compared with a year earlier, the number of unemployed rose by 8,900.

Male unemployment rose to 4.6% in June from 4.5% in May, although it remained below the revised rate of 4.8% recorded a year earlier.

The female unemployment rate increased to 5.4% from 5.3% in May and was sharply higher than 4.4% in June last year.

The youth unemployment rate, covering those aged 15 to 24, jumped to 10.8% in June from 9.9% in May. By contrast, the unemployment rate for those aged 25 to 74 was unchanged at 4.2%.

The number of unemployed men increased to 71,200 in June from 69,000 in May, while the number of unemployed women rose to 73,800 from 72,900.
