Irish economy returns to headline on-quarter growth in second quarter

Ireland's economy returned to headline growth in the second quarter of 2026, preliminary data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Wednesday.

The country's economy grew by 3.9% on-quarter, following a decline of 7.0% in the first quarter.

On-year, it declined by 1.6% in the second quarter, following a 13% slump in the first quarter.

The CSO did not publish new figures for modified domestic demand on Wednesday, which is a better measure of Ireland's domestic economy which is dominated by multinational corporations and foreign direct investment.

Pertinently, figures from the CSO had indicated that Ireland's economy grew dramatically in the first quarter of 2025 as technology and pharmaceutical exports to the US had increased ahead of tariffs threatened by US President Donald Trump.
