ITM Power signs letter of intent for study with Deutsche Bahn unit
ITM Power PLC on Wednesday said it has signed a letter of intent with DB Systemtechnik GmbH, a subsidiary of Germany’s national railway company Deutsche Bahn AG.
The Sheffield-based designer and manufacturer of electrolyser systems said the two companies have agreed to ‘forge an innovation and research partnership for the development, piloting and testing of green energy solutions for the transport and critical infrastructure sectors’.
This follows an agreement between ITM Power and DB back in March 2025 to collaborate on sustainable transportation and infrastructure solutions.
ITM Power said the collaboration will explore opportunities to deploy green hydrogen to support the decarbonisation of rail transport and associated mobility solutions. It will also support the energy resilience requirements of railway infrastructure.
‘The partnership will also evaluate solutions that enhance energy resilience and self-sufficiency, including the production, sourcing and storage of green fuels for day-to-day operations,’ ITM Power said.
The two companies intend to launch a front-end engineering design study to assess the technical configuration, site integration, operational requirements and commercial framework for possible applications of ITM’s electrolyser technology at DB sites.
‘We are delighted to take the next step in our close collaboration. The agreement and planned FEED study mark an important progression in our relationship and further underline the potential role of green hydrogen in the decarbonisation of critical transport infrastructure,’ said ITM Power Chief Executive Officer Dennis Schulz.
Shares in ITM Power were down 2.5% at 123.18 pence at midday on Wednesday in London.
