Mindflair portfolio company wins PS250,000 AI government contract

Mindflair PLC on Friday said its portfolio company LearnCycle Ltd has been awarded a UK Department for Education contract for an AI-powered marking tool.

The London-based investor in artificial intelligence technology said LearnCycle, which trades as Stylus Education, was awarded approximately £250,000 in funding by the Department for Education under its ‘AI tools for Education’ programme.

The programme, which comprises £1 million in total, is intended to take AI tools that support teacher workload from prototype to classroom use.

Stylus will use the award to develop its platform that enables handwritten student work to be scanned and assessed by AI, with human moderation, Mindflair said.

Mindflair’s Director Nicholas Lee said: ‘We are delighted to see Stylus recognised by the DfE through this award - it underlines the strength of the platform and the opportunity for AI to materially reduce teacher workload and drive better student feedback. We look forward to seeing Stylus progress this development phase and drive scalable adoption across the education sector.’

Shares in Mindflair fell 3.9% to 0.62 pence on Friday afternoon in London.
