Oxford Biomedica becomes US peer Plowshare's manufacturing partner

Oxford BioMedica PLC on Thursday said it has signed a manufacturing agreement with biotechnology company Plowshare Therapies.

The Oxford, England-based gene and cell therapy developer will, under the agreement, provide process development and manufacturing services to support Plowshare's adeno-associated virus gene therapy programme.

Oxford BioMedica said it may support further programmes, and later-stage manufacturing, "as Plowshare's pipeline advances."

Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based Plowshare is focused on developing gene therapies for children with rare genetic diseases, its lead programme being the PLOW-101 therapy for types 1A and 1B of life-threatening inherited metabolic disorder, maple syrup urine disease. PLOW-101 holds US Food & Drug Administration and rare paediatric diseases designations, and is progressing towards an investigational new drug application.

Oxford BioMedica said Plowshare's programme will be supported from the former's FDA-approved, commercial-scale viral vector manufacturing facility in Durham, North Carolina.

"The collaboration highlights continued demand for OXB's portfolio of capabilities in the viral vector space and reflects the strategic importance of its expanded US footprint, with the site attracting a significant number of new clients since its acquisition in October 2025," the firm noted.

"This latest partnership...reflects the increasing momentum we are seeing across our AAV business since the acquisition," Chief Business Officer Sebastien Ribault commented. "By combining our deep expertise in viral vector development and GMP manufacturing with Plowshare's innovative rare disease programme, we look forward to supporting the advancement of potentially transformative therapies for patients with significant unmet medical needs."

Shares in Oxford Biomedica were down 0.5% at 640.00 pence on Thursday in London.
