PRESS: Danone eyes Reckitt's infant formula unit Mead Johnson

Danone SA is considering buying infant nutrition business Mead Johnson & Co LLC from Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC, La Lettre reported on Wednesday.

Slough, England-based consumer health and hygiene products firm Reckitt has entered talks with Paris?based food and beverage company Danone as it reviews all strategic options for the infant formula company.

Reckitt bought Mead Johnson for $16.6 billion in 2017. The unit has been hit by impairments, divestments and US lawsuits in recent years.

Reckitt is currently selling non-core assets to boost profitable growth. Last year, it sold its Essential Home business, which includes Cillit Bang and Air Wick, to private equity firm Advent International LP for $4.8 billion.

Shares in Danone were down 0.5% at €68.66 on Thursday morning in Paris. Reckitt shares were 3.0% lower at 5,186.00 pence in London.
