Quantum Data Energy narrows first-half loss as revenue rises

Quantum Data Energy PLC on Friday reported a narrowed pretax loss for the first half of 2026, as electricity generation increased and revenue rose.

The London-based energy company said pretax loss for the six months to June 30 narrowed 52% to £368,762 from £558,903 a year ago. The company

Revenue rose 8.9% to £792,059 from £727,488, as Quantum's flagship Pyebridge project generated record revenue of £792,000, the company said.

Administrative expenses increased to £639,855 from £288,929, contributing to an operating loss of £662,900, compared with £244,129 a year ago. The company explained this was primarily due to "business development and marketing expenses to assist with obtaining funding and projects to grow in terms of the company strategy, and increased audit fees were paid during the first half of 2026."

The operating loss was partly offset by a £451,772 gain on disposal of the Bordersley project, as Power Balancing Services Ltd acquired a 65% stake in Bordersley in exchange for an investment in new shares.

Electricity generation increased 15% to about 4.7 gigawatt-hours from about 4.1 GWh, which Quantum Data Energy attributed to strong demand for flexible generation power.

The company declared no interim dividend, unchanged from a year ago.

Quantum Data Energy said: "The period was defined by record renewable output alongside sustained price volatility principally due to the on-going US-Iran conflict. Wind overtook gas as the largest single source of GB electricity across the half-year, yet the systemic importance of flexible generation intensified rather than diminished, with intraday spreads regularly exceeding £100/MWh.

"The residual market for flexible gas generation is becoming smaller in volume but richer in price, concentrated in precisely the tight, volatile windows that flexible generation exists to serve - the thesis on which the company's core business model is built.

"The company continues to advance its new AI datacentre power supply strategy."

On Monday, Quantum Data Energy announced the completion of its 7.5-megawatt Hindlip flexible generation power project, which has been commissioned and is now grid-energised.

Construction of its 5-megawatt Bordersley flexible generation power project is under way, with commercial operations expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, the company said.

Shares in Quantum were quoted at 1.20 pence on Friday morning in London.
