Trainline inks Rail Delivery Group contract for digital payment trials

Trainline on Tuesday inked a contract with the Rail Delivery Group to run a digital payment trial across the UK.

Earlier in June, the London-based digital rail and coach booking platform announced its selection as the preferred bidder for a tender contract with RDG, which is an organisation of train operating companies in the UK. As of Tuesday, the deal has been formalised, Trainline said.

The contract is to provide technology for one of four digital pay-as-you-go trials, which will run for nine months from their start date, scheduled between September and November. The trials will cover journeys on the Northern Rail and East Midlands Railway networks, with destinations including London, Luton, Manchester and Newcastle.

Trainline provided no financial details of the agreement.

Trainline shares were 2.0% higher at 274.80 pence on Tuesday morning in London.
