UPDATE: Tamar Minerals set for drilling at historic Cornwall tin mine
Tamar Minerals PLC - exploring for tin and copper in south west England - Signs contract with Priority Drilling Ltd to conduct a 1,900 metre drilling programme at the Great Wheal Vor mine in Cornwall. The drill rig will mobilise on Monday next week, with drilling beginning "shortly thereafter". Tamar notes that Great Wheal Vor was one of Cornwall's biggest tin producers until mining ended in 1878. This was due to the lode dipping into adjacent mineral rights that are now under the control of Tamar.
Last week, Dominic Claridge started at Tamar as chief executive officer. Claridge has worked in mining for 35 years, Tamar noted, including experience in China, Australia, Namibia and the UK. Claridge was chief operating officer of AIM-listed Griffin Mining Ltd for six years. He will work two days a week at Tamar and won't join the board. Following Claridge's recruitment, Mark Thompson moved to non-executive chair.
"This is a programme I have wanted to drill for many years," Thompson says of the Great Wheal Vor programme, "and with recent strength in tin prices coupled with strong fundamentals and growing government and global interest in critical metals in the South West of England, the timing could not be better."
