Wickes hails Retail showing as lifts market share amid sales growth

Wickes Group PLC on Tuesday reported a "significantly improved" performance in its Retail business helping it deliver sales growth in its third quarter.

In response, shares in the Watford, England-based home improvement retailer climbed 4.4% to 225.00 pence each in London on Tuesday morning, leaving them up 2.5% over the last 12 months.

Wickes said revenue grew 4.5% to £439 million in the quarter ended September 26, or by 4.0% like-for-like.

Within this, Retail sales grew 6.0%, or 5.6% LFL, while Design & Installation sales edged up 0.3%, but fell 0.6% LFL.

Wickes said Retail saw a "significantly improved performance" in the quarter, with strong overall volume increases and mild price inflation starting to come through after a sustained period of deflation.

It pointed to continued market share growth, with notable strength in timber, flooring, roofing and garden. On a two-year basis, Retail LFL increased by 12%.

"Our continued market share gains demonstrate the strength of our value-led proposition and our ability to outperform in a competitive market," said Chief Executive David Wood.

Within Retail, TradePro continued to perform well, with sales up 8% year-on-year. Active TradePro members increased by 8% year-on-year to 684,000.

In Design & Installation, Wickes said Bespoke Kitchen ranges are seeing customers being "more considered" for larger purchases. As a result, the overall number of D&I projects remained flat, and ordered sales by value for the quarter were lower than last year.

Wockes said it is on track to meet consensus expectations which on average show a growth in adjusted pretax profit of around 10% for 2026 from £49.9 million in financial 2025.

For the financial year to date, total revenue is up 2.9% to £1.30 billion, or 1.8% LFL. Retail sales are up 2.5%, or 1.6% LFL, with Design & Installation sales up 3.9%, or 2.2% LFL.
