Take a tour of the features of your AJ Bell account, including your portfolio, buying and selling shares, topping up your account, our research pages, and much more.
Once you’ve opened an account with AJ Bell, you can view and manage your accounts, buy and sell investments and much more easily online.
Our overview page gives you and summary of your accounts. Here you can view all your accounts, as well as deal and top up. You can also switch between your accounts and view any linked accounts, if you’ve set up family linking. By clicking ’view’ on one of your accounts, you can see a detailed breakdown of the investments you have within it. That includes how many units or shares you hold of each investment, its current price, its overall value, how much you paid for it, and how its value has changed – both in pounds and pence, and as a percentage. If you like, you can choose to print or download this screen.
If you have an ISA or SIPP, you'll see in this box you how much you've paid in this tax year, and how much allowance you have left over. Also below your portfolio is a chart giving you a breakdown of your portfolio by sector. For a more in-depth breakdown of your portfolio, you can view our portfolio x-ray tool - this analyses your portfolio by asset allocation, sector, region and performance.
You can buy and sell existing investments easily from within your portfolio. Or you can search for an investment on the ‘Buy and sell’ screen. For some investments – such as shares, investment trusts and exchange traded funds – you’ll be given an online quote, which will count down for 15 seconds, giving you time to check it over before confirming your order. When you place a deal, you’ll receive online confirmation of your order. Once the deal is completed, you’ll receive your contract note by secure message.
You can set up dividend reinvestment, which will automatically reinvest your dividend payments into that stock. You can also set up monthly regular investments, letting you save monthly by investing automatically in your choice of shares, ETFs, funds and investment trusts. The ‘R’ and ‘D’ columns in your portfolio will show which investments you’ve selected for regular investment or dividend reinvestment. You can view your transaction history at any time. It will display all your previous deals, and can be sorted by date and type. You can also view other types of transactions on your investments, such as a transfer or corporate action. You can filter your transaction history by individual investments.
Your secure messages can be accessed via the ‘My account’ menu, the menu on each page, or on your account overview page. You can use secure messages to ask questions about your account, but you can’t use them to deal. Secure messages are also where you'll receive important notifications about your account.
To top up the cash in your account, you can select ‘single payment’ from the ‘my account’ menu. Here you can choose to make a single payment by debit card or using Pay by bank. You can also make regular payments by setting up a monthly direct debit. To see all cash movements in and out of your accounts, just click on your ‘Cash statement’ – which can be filtered by date range.
