IN BRIEF: DFS Furniture restores dividend as annual profit rises 33%

DFS Furniture PLC - Doncaster, England-based living room and upholstered furniture retailer - Pretax profit rises by a third to £43.7 million in the financial year that June 28 from £32.9 million a year before, as revenue rises by 2.6% to £1.06 billion from £1.03 billion. In response, DFS declares a 2.0 pence per share final dividend for a 3.0p full-year payout, compared to none for financial 2025. Prior to its 1.0p interim dividend this year, DFS's last payout was an interim dividend of 1.1p for financial 2024.

Chair Steve Johnson says strong cash flow has reduced leverage to 0.9 times from 1.4 times, allowing the restoration of dividend payments. Net bank debt at the June 28 year-end is £69.0 million, down from £107.0 million a year before.

Looking ahead, DFS says order intake in the first 12 weeks of financial 2027 is down 2.5% on a year before, as hot weather in the UK in July and August hurt store footfall, but the company still expects "moderate profit growth" in line with analyst consensus, which it places at £48.0 million profit before tax and brand amortisation. For financial 2026, this measure is £44.9 million. DFS will hold its annual general meeting in Doncaster on November 13.
