IN BRIEF: Mothercare chair and CFO buy PS470,000 in shares

Mothercare PLC - Watford, England-based retailer which specialises in products for newborn babies and children - Chair Clive Whiley buys 42.0 million shares at 1.0 pence, worth £420,000. Chief Financial Officer Andy Cook buys 5.0 million shares at the same price, worth £50,000. Both on Tuesday.

Mothercare earlier Tuesday said its pretax loss narrowed to £1.4 million in the 26 weeks to September 27 from £1.8 million a year prior. Turnover dropped markedly to £11.6 million from £21.0 million, as franchise partner sales declined, but the bottom line benefited from reduced administrative expenses which fell to £5.6 million from £7.3 million.

Current stock price: 2.44 pence, up 11% in London on Wednesday
