Frontier Developments eyes record profit, sees ‘further success’ ahead
Frontier Developments PLC on Wednesday reported an increase in annual earnings, hailing its focus on management simulation games, and it said the new year is expected to start ‘positively’.
In a trading statement, the Cambridge, England-based video game developer and publisher said adjusted operating profit shot up 44% to £19.0 million in the year to May 31, from £13.2 million the year prior.
Revenue was 16% higher at £104.8 million from £90.6 million.
It represents record profit, and is its second-highest annual revenue figure.
Frontier highlighted a ‘strategic focus’ creative management simulation games, which accounted for 90% of its revenue in the year just ended.
‘The CMS performance was driven by the successful release of Jurassic World Evolution 3, alongside continued revenue contributions from the Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo game franchises, and the first two games in the Jurassic World Evolution series,’ it said.
It said the new year is set to ‘start positively’, with the Jurassic World Evolution 3 title joining Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service.
Chief Executive Officer Jo Cooke commented: ‘We are now set for further success, with three new games scheduled for release across FY27 and FY28. For FY27 we have two terrific sequels, with Planet Zoo 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Deathwatch, and for FY28 we are creating a new Planet game franchise, continuing our commitment to building and sustaining world-class CMS games.’
Shares in the company fell 4.9% to 446.50 pence each in London on Wednesday.
