IWG founder and CEO Mark Dixon moves to executive chair position

International Workplace Group PLC on Tuesday announced that company founder Mark Dixon has moved from the position of chief executive officer to that of executive chair.

The Zug, Switzerland-based provider of hybrid workspace under Regus and other brands said it appointed Christian Schmitz, who joined the board on Tuesday, as chief executive officer.

Former CEO and now Executive Chair Mark Dixon founded IWG in 1989 and will continue to provide strategic guidance to the board and act as an adviser to CEO Schmitz.

New CEO Schmitz joined IWG in 2025 as chief transformation officer and subsequently global head of all regions, and has ‘helped accelerate operational execution, strengthen performance and advance the company’s strategic priorities,’ IWG said.

Meanwhile, Douglas Sutherland has moved to the position of deputy chair, from non-executive chair.

IWG said: ‘These leadership changes position IWG for the significant opportunities ahead while reflecting the desire of the Board and shareholders to maintain Mark Dixon’s unrivalled industry knowledge, experience and long-term strategic perspective through an orderly CEO transition process.’

IWG shares rose 1.2% to 184.20 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
