Seplat Energy names Effiong Okon as CEO as Roger Brown retires

Seplat Energy PLC on Tuesday announced a series of board and executive management changes, including the appointment of a new chief executive officer and a planned chair succession, as the company seeks to support its next phase of growth.

The Nigeria-focused energy supplier said Chief Executive Officer Roger Brown will retire and leave the board on July 31 after 13 years with the company, including six years as CEO.

The company appointed Effiong Okon as chief executive officer and executive director with effect from August 1. Okon has been with Seplat since 2018, previously serving as operations director, new energy director, and, most recently, managing director of ANOH Gas Processing Co, where he led the project to first gas in January 2026.

Separately, Chair Udoma Udo Udoma has notified the board of his intention to retire on December 31, 2026.

The board has elected Tony Elumelu to succeed him as chair from January 1, 2027. Elumelu joined the board in January 2026 and is the founder and chair of Heirs Holdings, which owns a 20.07% stake in Seplat.

Shares in Seplat Energy were down 0.4% at 566.00 pence in London on Tuesday afternoon.
