Team Internet wins contract to operate Colombia's internet domain

Team Internet Group PLC on Thursday said it has won a ten-year contract to manage and operate Colombia’s country code domain ‘.co’.

The London-based internet services company said it was awarded the contract by Colombia’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, in partnership Colombian domain registrar CCI REG.

The contract will be carried out by Equipo PuntoCo, a newly formed joint venture between Team Internet and CCI REG.

Team Internet said Equipo PuntoCo will retain 8% of gross revenue from .co domain registrations and renewals as payment for its registry services.

It said .co has over 3 million active registrations and has ‘earned a global reputation as the domain of choice for startups, creators, and enterprises seeking a short, brandable, and credible online identity’.

Team Internet Chief Executive Officer Michael Riedl said: ‘Winning the .co mandate is a milestone moment for Team Internet. It strengthens our position as a global leader in domain infrastructure and affirms our capability to manage nationally critical internet assets with trust, stability, and innovation.

‘Together with our joint venture partner CCI REG, we are honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility by the Colombian government on behalf of the people of Colombia. We are deeply grateful for their trust and excited to support the digital ambitions of millions of .co users in Colombia and around the world.’

Shares in Team Internet were up 1.0% at 63.60 pence in London on Thursday afternoon.
